Live streaming & shorts app
A vertical feed, live video and audio rooms, PK battles, watch parties and a full creator economy — built for India.
The hard part
Short video and live broadcast behave nothing alike. Users expect to scroll from a clip into a live room without noticing a seam.
A short-video and live-streaming app for Indian creators, built as a working prototype with real video playback, pooled controllers, simulated realtime chat, gifts and live scoring.
The screens
- Shorts feed with live rooms inline in the scroll, so going live is not a separate destination
- Live room — video, with gifts, combos and entry sweeps
- PK battle, split screen with supporter thrones
- Live room — audio, at roughly a twentieth of the bandwidth cost
- Audio party — an eight-seat stage with raise-hand
- Watch together — synced playback with playlist votes
- Room games — free to play, XP only, no stakes
- Rankings, wallet, levels and badges — the status economy, with XP earned by participation rather than spend
What made it hard
Pre-recorded clips can be cached, pre-fetched and scrubbed. A live room cannot. Making both feel like one continuous feed — where scrolling from a clip into a live room costs nothing — is the whole trick, and it is mostly about how aggressively you pool and recycle video controllers.
More of the hard parts.
